Qatar
adopts a visa-exemption policy with more than 30 countries,
as well as the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) members, to
encourage tourism. The existing regulations apply to GCC
residence permit holders.
This system reinforces the policy
of openness which has impacts on every aspect of life in the
country. Business visas are issued to businessmen who have
applied in
advance.
For a tourist to obtain a visa, he or she should fly to the
country on Qatar Airways. Fourteen-day visas are usually
given at the Immigration Department at Doha International
Airport. They are renewable for a further 3 months.
Three types of visas
In
order to make Qatar's festivals a success and consequently
to activate the role of family, festival, shopping and
sports tourism, many exceptional measures are applied to
facilitate entry visa arrangements during such events which
Qatar hosts all the year round. Visas fall into
three categories:
First:
Businessmen are granted one week extendable visas.
Second:
Tourists are issued visas for 2 weeks and they can be
extended on the condition that a sponsorship is provided by
one of the followings:
-
Qatar
National Hotels Company (or having a reservation at one
of the local hotels).
-
Accredited Travel Agency.
-
A GCC
citizen.
Third:
non-GCC citizen dependants (companions) of GCC citizens are
issued one-month extendable entry visas.
A tourist can get a visa upon arrival at the
country's entry points, or from Qatar embassies abroad. He
or she can make use of the joint entry visa of Qatar and
Oman which allows visits to either country.
However, shall he / she go to a third country, then a new
visa must be obtained at point of entry.
Countries whose citizens are eligible for such joint visa
are 33, and they are:
United States of America Britain, France,
Italy, Germany, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan,
Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Austria,
Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Portugal, Ireland, Greece,
Finland, Spain, Monaco, Vatican, Iceland, Andorra, San
Marino, Liechtenstein, Brunei, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong
Kong, and South Korea.
